Thanks for this. I first heard "Fast Car" when Chapman was featured on SNL back in 1988. The song was mesmerizing, but the artist was so interesting. The song has remained on my playlists ever since. Her career reminds me a bit of Don McLean of "American Pie" fame. They had a talent that was outsized for commercial music with songs rated and discarded within weeks on the chart. Their music was meant to be savored and they didn't give in to the industry that required them to turn out hits rather than music.
